‘CODA’s Troy Kotsur Becomes First Deaf Male Actor To Land Oscar Nom

Apple’s acclaimed family drama tells the story of a CODA (child of deaf adult) who finds herself torn between the role she plays in her family and the pursuit of an education in music.

Kotsur plays the girl's father and already became the first deaf actor to with an individual SAG nomination for his performance in CODA.
His CODA co-star Marlee Matlin become the first deaf actor to both secure a nomination (in the category of Best Actress) and take home a statuette back in 1986 her role in for Children of a Lesser God. They share a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture with the rest of the film’s ensemble. And that's not all: CODA is up for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay.
CODA won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, as well as its Audience Award, Directing Award and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble.
Apple bought the film for a record $25 million and it has earned numerous other award nominations since then.
