A lawsuit filed by former Gallaudet University students claims the school and The Washington Post defamed them.

All ten were members of the Kappa Gamma fraternity, which was suspended last year just as old photos of the members surfaced. Gallaudet president Roberta Cordano called the fraternity "the face of systemic racism" but later said the decision to suspend the fraternity had not been based on the photos, but rather for violating a ban on the public use of any robes and regalia. Some of the former students say they lost jobs or promotions because of their associations with Kappa Gamma.

The lawsuit states:

"The effect of the false, outrageous and defamatory attack on Kappa Gamma and its alumni members ... was fast, furious and widespread throughout the deaf community and the country, if not the world."

The CBC reached out to Gallaudet and The Washington Post but has not received a comment.
