Oscar-winner Marlee Matlin Becomes Academy Governor

Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin is now on the the board of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The board of governors announced Wednesday the CODA star had been elected to the position. She joins members like Steven Spielberg and Woopi Goldberg, and takes the place of actor Laura Dean. Director Jason Reitman and producer Jason Blum are also joining the board. There are 17 areas of filmmaking from which the group comes, including directors, producers, and editors.
